About Course

Geography is more than just reading maps and identifying countries. It’s the study of cultures and societies, the interplay between the land and humanity, and the effects of socioeconomic events on the other side of the world impacting our everyday lives here in Southeast Texas. Geography helps us understand history as well as how we are inextricably connected to our fellow man, whether he’s next door or across the ocean. It helps us make sense of the world and to find our place in it. And yes, it also teaches us about maps – so many different kinds of maps! – and not just what countries exist but where they are.

As technology shrinks the global village, it’s become even more important that we understand each of the “neighborhoods” in that village. The more we know about other countries, cultures, and regions, the better context we have for identifying and preparing for the consequences of current events, political moves in our own country and others, and the forming and severing of international relationships. Geography helps us do that! It also helps students develop spatial awareness, a better understanding of other cultures, and problem-solving skills for tackling the global issues their generation will be tasked with undertaking.

This twice-weekly class (Mondays & Wednesdays from 12:30-1:45) will take your child around the world as we explore the challenges, unique traits, and cultures of each region. They’ll learn the skills necessary to navigate and investigate the world, analyze how what happens in one part of it affects the others, and think critically about data, cause and effect, and their own cultural experiences and how those influence how they see and interact with other. This class can be awarded a full credit for social studies on your child’s high school transcript. Note that this class will have homework on the Monday of Thanksgiving week.

World Geography is currently ON SALE for only $575 per semester (regularly $700), with payment plans available. That’s less than $17 per class hour! And you’ll receive ANOTHER $100 off this class when you bundle it with any of my other courses!

So grab your passport and join us on our global adventure!
