You just KNOW you’ve got a novel in you – you’re just not sure how to get it out! Let a multi-published author teach you how to grow a novel using the Snowflake Method: a step-by-step, structured approach that takes a single-sentence story idea to multiple chapters with 3D characters. That’s right: you’ll write a FULL NOVEL in this class – not just a long story, and not just an outline. How cool would it be to check that off your bucket list?!

The first semester of this year-long class (which meets on Mondays from 2:00-3:30) will focus on helping you create your rough draft. We’ll write along with thousands of other aspiring novelists in November by participating as a class in NaNoWriMo. The second semester will focus on literary analysis as we hone that draft. We’ll study excerpts from a variety of novels as we discuss the ins and outs of story-world building, how to craft realistic and effective dialogue, how to show and not tell, and how to use figurative language to enhance our voice and storytelling. At the end of the second semester we’ll discuss publishing options for those who want to move forward with selling their novel!

In-class time will be used for direct instruction, discussion, and writing critique. Weekly homework will be assigned. Daily writing will be encouraged in November . (Please note this class will meet on the Monday of Thanksgiving week. Please let me know if your student will not be able to attend.)

The first semester of this class can be counted as a half credit extracurricular on your high schooler’s transcript, and the second semester can be counted as a half-credit English credit. This class can be bundled as a discount with any of my other English classes; contact me for details. Tuition is $850 for the year with payment plans available.
