About Course

This course will  introduce the student to basic knowledge about American Sign Language.

The course includes sign vocabulary, fingerspelling, numbers and expressive and receptive signing activities. American Sign Language is a foreign language credit and therefore the course will also cover the history of ASL and becoming knowledgeable of aspects of Deaf Culture which an integral part of meaningful language use. Beginning level communication competence and mimic natural conversation in ASL.

ASL 1 is a year long course. We will cover Units 1-6 in ASL 1A (Fall semester)
Students will be producing videos of themselves for homework. In this class we will also have deaf visitors from time to time so that students can begin to practice communication with deaf adults.
-Fall 2023 ASL 1, part 1 on Tuesdays 12:15-1:30pm
– Spring 2024 ASL 1, part 2, on Tuesdays 12:15-1:30 pm
-You can register for both semesters to receive high school credit
-$400 per semester
