About Course

Introduction to Culinary Principles

Our Introduction to Culinary Principles class is a foundational course designed for students to learn the basics of culinary arts, knife skills, recipe reading, food sanitation and safety, and more. This course is a prerequisite for any culinary course that is part of our program.
This is not a “life skills cooking” class. Your Junior Culinarian will gain knowledge of how to properly use and care for their knives, a basic understanding of different cooking methods, how to manage their time while working with a multi-step recipe, fundamental skills that do not require a recipe like sauce making, emulsions, and creative cooking techniques with a variety of food items. Students will apply their knowledge by participating in hands-on cooking activities in the lab.
This class will prepare the junior culinarian to participate in Legacy Oaks Culinary Academy courses in which this basic information will NOT be covered in order to provide a full 9 weeks of instruction on the corresponding topic.

Included in this intro course is their Junior Chef Knife Kit, Chef Coat, and hat.
Minimum deposit of $400

*An informal interview with Chef Ryan Bokros is required prior to registration being offered to a student.
