Grammar Foundation Review (Summer 2023)

About Course
This 9-week course, which meets Tuesdays from 9am-10:15 starting June 6, is perfect for students in grades seven through twelve who have had some grammar instruction but still struggle with foundational concepts and don’t understand how to transfer knowledge of grammar to better writing. We will review and reinforce concepts like:
- nouns, subjects, and objects;
- subject/verb pairs;
- main, dependent, and adverbial clauses;
- prepositional phrases;
- who/which/that clauses, adjectives, adverbs, and www.asia.wub clauses;
- punctuation;
- combining grammar elements to create strong sentences.
Students will complete an assessment on the first day that will help determine the content for the rest of the term so that each student’s biggest trouble spots will be properly addressed over the course of the class. The content will be useful regardless of what curriculum you’ve used in the past, be it IEW’s Fix It Grammar, EIW, TGTB, or any other program! Grammar is grammar, no matter how it’s presented!
Note that if your student also struggles with composition, my “Creating Essays With the Writer’s Toolbox” course would be the perfect companion class and will give them the opportunity to put into practice the lessons they learn in Grammar Foundations Review. Discounted pricing is available when bundling these two classes!
