About Course

Extremely hands-on, interactive, discussion-based, and fun!! Small class size. Partnered lab work during every class! Your student will end this course with a deeper admiration of the intricacies of not just food itself, but the science behind how it’s prepared, and cared for, its nutrition, how food is marketed (psychology), where taste comes from, etc. We will apply some basic principles and knowledge of chemistry, microbiology, thermodynamics, safety, and nutrition. They will also build relationships, improve communication skills and gain confidence in a group learning setting.

 

14 week Fall course 

1 Full Year Science with lab for advanced middle school students and high school students.

Tuesdays 10:30 – 12:30p

Cost :: $500

 

All lab supplies included in tuition.
No required text book.

 

The course will consist of weekly labs with a partner/group, interactive discussion to ensure mastery of the material, no weekly homework, final score is determined by an end-of-course capstone in which the student will leverage everything learned throughout the session to create a marketable food product.
No heavy reading or extensive vocabulary memorization.

What Will You Learn?

  • There is a lot of science that goes into the everyday foods that you love. Explore questions such as how baking ingredients work, how and why certain ingredients mix well together, how to best store food, and why people's tastes differ.
