About Course

Strong composition skills require an understanding of more than just grammar. There are myriad tools you need to use to capture the attention and interest of the reader, keep them engaged to the end of the piece, and leaves them with a clear understanding of your message. Mastering these tools can lead to better grades in school, more scholarship money for college, and career advancement – as well as being better understood in emails and other written correspondence.

Creating Essays With the Writer’s Toolbox will give students the tools they need to craft well-written compositions that communicate clearly and engage their audience. We’ll explore the connection between understanding grammar and producing solid written communication; learn and practice with the various tools in the writer’s toolbox that make clear, engaging writing possible; and learn how to create a strong five-paragraph essay (including timed essays – an important skill for college-bound students). Through interactive and group activities, students will tackle common grammar problems, learn the process for planning and composing an essay of any length, and create a physical version of the writer’s “toolbox” which they can use to assist them with future writing. This class will meet Thursdays from 2:00-3:15 and will have daily homework assignments as well. Let a professional author and editor show your student the path to powerful essays!

This class can be counted as a half-credit English class on you student’s transcript. Bundle it with my “How to Write a Research Paper” class in Spring 2024 to create a full-credit English class.

The tuition for this class is $450 for the semester with payment plans available.  Get $50 off this class when you bundle it with any of my other classes!
