Having taught dyslexic students for over 10 years and students with a variety of neurological issues, this course is designed from my experiences for students in 6th grade and up. It will be individualized and tailored to each student’s particular needs. There will be lots of tactile and kinesthetic activities to help your child commit the concepts to memory!

This course will  introduce the student to basic knowledge about American Sign Language.

The course includes sign vocabulary, fingerspelling, numbers and expressive and receptive signing activities. American Sign Language is a foreign language credit and therefore the course will also cover the history of ASL and becoming knowledgeable of aspects of Deaf Culture which an integral part of meaningful language use. Beginning level communication competence and mimic natural conversation in ASL.

ASL 1 is a year long course. We will cover Units 1-6 in ASL 1A (Fall semester)
Students will be producing videos of themselves for homework. In this class we will also have deaf visitors from time to time so that students can begin to practice communication with deaf adults.
-Fall 2023 ASL 1, part 1 on Tuesdays 12:15-1:30pm
– Spring 2024 ASL 1, part 2, on Tuesdays 12:15-1:30 pm
-You can register for both semesters to receive high school credit

Through hands-on dissections and practical experiments, students will learn about the interconnectedness of these systems and how they work together to maintain overall health.

In addition to lab work this class encourages critical thinking and problem-solving skills as students explore real-life medical scenarios and discuss ethical considerations in the field of anatomy.

By the end of this course, students will not only have a profound understanding of human anatomy but also develop a deep appreciation for the wonders of the human body and its remarkable capabilities. This hands-on class is a gateway to potential careers in medicine, biology, or any other field that involves understanding the intricacies of the human form. Join us as we embark on a fascinating journey into the depths of human anatomy!

 

Course Meets Tuesdays 1-3pm for 14 weeks, September 5 through December 12.

Classes will consist of dynamic discussion centered around hands on activities and group lab work.  There will be several short quizzes throughout the term to check for understanding and 2 exams, one “midterm” and one final exam at the end.

Students should allow 1 hour of time outside of class to prepare for class discussions.  Honors students should allow more time to complete extension work.

This course fulfills 1 full year high school science credit.

Honor option available for those students who want to receive an honors credit.

Many students who enjoy this class go on to compete in speech and debate.

Classroom activities will teach a specific aspect of logic each week then challenge the students to make connections by weighing and debating real world examples.  

Each week will have an at-home assignment which should take about an hour a week.

Join us as we study the different mixed media within Art. Students will study a variety of media, methods, and processes in 2 and 3-dimensional art forms. This will allow students to be able to learn new art styles and media, as well as improve on what they already know. The students will be exposed to these different media such as Painting (watercolor), Clay, Paper art (Origami), and Drawing (pencils and marker). We will have assigned projects that focus on themes and concepts, but will also allow students to take charge and create unique pieces.

 

This course is designed for those interested in Art, who have wanted to learn an art media, and/or who want to express their creativity. This is a beginner-friendly course it does not require any formal training.
